Ready, Set, TAKE OFF!
But wait… now you’re bored…
Flights can be long, hot, stressfully and boring. Jane Wandering has the cure you need for solving the boredom problem for the young and old!
Below we have put together an awesome list of fun activities that can be played and created while stuck in an airplane. Some of these ideas are brought by the Jane Wandering team, other by customers, and some discovered on Pinterest. Take a peak and see if any other these activities sound fun to you!
Let the fun begin!
- Listen to music
- Play a Gameboy or electronic game
- Listen to an audio book
- Watch a movie
- Take photos (not of passengers… that’s creepy)
- Live tweet anything happening on the plane
- Play a game of Sudoku
- Read a good book or magazine
- Make up a story
- Start journaling in your Jane Wandering Travel Journal
- Knit or crochet
- Stare out the window and count birds or make shapes out of clouds
- Draw a picture
- Sleep (getting more sleep is always fun)
- Explore the plane, but only when it is safe to unbuckle! We are not responsible if you hit turbulence and fall in someone’s lap. Again… that might be creepy..
- Play the ‘I’d rather have’ Sky Mall game
- Confuse your flight attendance with these fun airplane cocktails, but only if you are over 21!
- Eat! Eating is always a very fun option
- Make origami
- Crossword puzzels
- Make people feel really awkward with the Ostrich Pillow
Seat Mate Fun
Whether you are stuck on a plane, train, or in a care full of people, check out the Jane Wandering On-the-Go Mini and Original Game Pads. These fun little pads include games such as hang man, connect 5, tic-tac-toe, dots, and MORE! Perfect for children entertaining themselves or making friends with a stranger. Nothing breaks the ice like playing tic-tac-toe!!
By now you know that all us gals at Jane Wandering LOVE to travel and have flown often. We fly so much we are TSA Pre-checked (an awesome investment) and have become packing experts! That is why we have created a list of 10 items we pack for each and every flight.
There is nothing worse than suffering through a crowded airport, boarding your plane, finding your seat, and realizing you forgot something at home or didn’t purchase a snack! Yes, you can sometimes get away with purchasing chips or candy on the plane, but the prices will probably be CRAZY expensive or they might not have what you are craving.
Just so you don’t have to suffer through that scenario we have put together 10 items we ALWAY pack when prepping for a flight. Now this list doesn’t include everything. There are some items we always have, but didn’t picture. Those items would include face wash (if it’s a long flight), a jacket (since I am notoriously cold), and Advil. However, the list we have created sums up our normal travel needs and will save you a pretty penny if you pack them before arriving at the airport.
Items listed from top left corner, clockwise:
Whether it is a reusable bottle you bring from home, or a SmartWater purchased at a newsstand. I never board a plane without a full bottle. This the the one item you can not get through security with. Unless you pack a reusable water bottle and fill it up at a restaurant (just ask, they normally will do it) or water fountain, plan to buy on near your gate.
Headphones or Earbuds
There is nothing worse than a child screaming on a plane or the person next to you smacking their gum. Block those and other irritants out with a pair of headphones and your favorite Playlist. I’ve forgotten my headphone countless times and these babies can run upwards of $30 at the airport versus $5-10 at Target. My favorite brand is Skull Candy, you can find the HERE.
Personally I love Wheat Thins. I only eat them when I travel so it’s always a special little airplane/travel treat! However, on my real cheat days I will pick up some Pringles! YUMM!
Dainty Airplane Necklace
The Dainty Airplane Necklace is around my neck 24/7! I own the version in silver and it is the perfect inspiration for me to jet-set around the world.
Yes, I am packing both a salty and a sweet treat on my plane trips, but hey! It’s vacation! If you haven’t had Brookside Chocolates then get ready for your world to be ROCKED! These little bits of heaven are amazing! I really enjoy the Pomegranate and the Vineyard Grape. The Clusters are amazing too, I just eat those a little too fast.
I’m not a germ freak, but there is something about airplane seats that disgust me. I have read one too many stories about the cleaning methods of airlines and will forever be armed with my hand sanitizer when I board a plane. If I could, I would bring my Clorox wipes and Lysol and go all Molly Maids on my seat!
Cabeau Revolution Travel Neck Pillow
Whether you want to sleep or simply rest your head, this is by far the best head pillow I have owned. When you purchase this head pillow you get earbuds, a cover/bag for it, and an unbelievably comfortable and malleable head rest! The Cabeau Revolution Travel Neck Pillowis the best way to relax and fly!
Sometimes music can only do so much on a long flight. I always stock-up on magazines and whatever book I happen to be reading at the moment. My personal favorite magazine is Self, an awesome collections of health, beauty, and recipes!
Jane Wandering Travel Journals
Ask any of us Jane Wandering gals where our Travel Journals are and we will whip out our book bags. These journals are small enough to fit in a book bag pockets, but sturdy enough to be tossed along side your spare jacket, computer, and books. If you missed our Travel Journal Blog, check it out HERE!
The dry air in a plane is great at making my skin itch, so I come armed with lotion. My favorite brand to carry is Nivea. It has multiple fragrances, but on a plane I like to keep it simple and clean. Just like you wouldn’t spray perfume on a plane, don’t be the person who covers themselves in an array of floral smells suffocating your neighbors. Just remember to keep the liquid contents of your lotion in accordance with TSA rules so they don’t confiscate it!
You can bet that on our trip to Miami at the end of the month we will have all these goodies with us on the plane. So if you ever see a Jane Wandering girl and happen to be craving a Brookside Chocolate… you know who to ask!
Check back this weekend for a fun blog of exciting thing to do to pass time on a long flight!
